In Search Of...
I should have come home from Guitar Center tonight with the black box of my dreams, a Roland VG-88. But noooo! The kid who told me they had one in stock was wrong, so it'll be at least a few days. Watch this space for raves, if I can type with raw, bleeding fingers. (Almost forgot to mention that I did grab the GK-2A Divided Pickup, so that I can install it in advance of the VG-88's arrival.)
On a related note, Mars Music recently filed for bankruptcy. Mars grew too rapidly. The company's founder made his money at Office Depot, then bought Ace Music and expanded like mad, burning through plenty of VC cash in the process.
For decades Ace Music was Miami's best music store; autographed photos of 60s rock stars decorated the walls. I still own the Korg Mono/Poly that I bought there in '82 (?) with Paul in tow; we were aspiring New Wave musicians at the time, and I had sold my Stratocaster to buy the synth. (Do you still have it, Dale Rhoads?) I never have become a real keyboardist, but I do have another Strat.
