Reasons to be Intertwingled, Part 3
As Paul has blogged at least twice [1 & 2], Ray Ozzie posited the notion of publicly readable e-mail. An unrelated story on Wired News (about a musician selling his own works on eBay) illustrates one of e-mail's biggest problems:
"There is a lack of communication at eBay," Steiner said. "If one person received an e-mail, they might deal with the problem. The problem is, it doesn't get logged, and if another e-mail shows up, another customer service representative starts the whole process all over again."
While the concept of publicly-readable e-mail makes most people cringe, the example above illustrates why companywide-readable e-mail makes a lot of sense in many cases.

The 1880 U.S. Census, that is. Thanks to a 17-year effort by the Mormon church, the database may be searched at www.familysearch.org.
