"BASICS AND BEYOND" DIGITIZATION WORKSHOP
DES PLAINES HISTORICAL SOCIETY, TUESDAY, JULY 22, 2003
The Illinois Digitization Institute will be offering cultural heritage institutions a one-day workshop on digital imaging at the Des Plaines Historical Society on Tuesday, July 22, 2003. This workshop will introduce participants from museums and libraries to issues involved in planning digitization projects that will allow them to make informed decisions about starting such projects. The following topics will be addressed:
* Advantages and disadvantages of digital imaging
* How to plan successful andsustainable projects
* Equipment choices
* Digitization techniques
* Professional standards for digitalimages
* Making use of the Illinois Digital Archives (IDA)
In addition to presentations on these topics, plenty of time will be allowed for questions and general discussion. The workshop will run from 9:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. The registration fee is $45.00 per person and includes lunch.
This workshop is part of a series of workshops. Each one-day workshop will cover the same topics, but will be held at different locations around the state. Other workshops are scheduled for: Champaign Public Library, August 4, 2003; East Moline Public Library, August 19, 2003; Elgin Area Historical Society, Sept. 16; Chicago Historical Society, Oct. 6; and Southern Illinois University, Nov. 3.
