My wife PC was randomly freezing. The case was midly hot but nothing unusual. We decided to take off one of the sides of the machines. Magic! Nine days without crashes.
I removed one of the 5.25" bay cover and inverted the flow of one of the fan to create a flow of air pushing the hot air out of the case. It hasn't crashed yet so maybe keeping it needs to be cooler than we thought. Knowing the motherboard is an all integrated K7SEM and the CPU a Duron 1000, I suspect the power supply may be cheap (it cames with the case) and overheat even if it load is low.
Update! 3 hours after we finished the modification, my wife PC froze again. I opened the case and the airflow from the fan was in the same direction than before we flipped it. Weird. Could it be possible that the little holes of the fan's grill are too small for the volume of air moved by the fan?I'll try to get a fan that could fit in a drive's bay to increase the flow...
