Scott Young: "An excellent David Berlind piece on potential future applications for RSS and, in some ways, the web in general."

Matt Mower:"I've been seeing more and more stuff about GreaseMonkey the FireFox extension which lets you add user scripts to existing web pages. It enables all kinds of content modification and so can be used for good or evil but, unlike other such technologies, it's far more in the control of the user."

iTunes and Podcasting

Reading Scripting News this morning, Dave points to some info about iTunes including podcatching features. Digging in to his comments, this link to Scott Rosenberg (I should subscribe to him, ugh...) fleshes out the details.

This single event is only one of the reasons why I didn't want to pursue podcasting features in Radio UserLand. iTunes is one platform controlled by one vendor so it only made sense that, once they saw the market stablize, they would go in and make it integrated. iTunes has an XML browser built in--that's how you view the iTunes Music Store--so if they can read an XML file already, the rest is an exercise in product management.

Take the RSS features in WebKit and marry them to the existing iTunes. Poof! Instant podcatcher! Now, let's see if we'll be able to add our own subscriptions.
