Received my Ripflash DX today. Nice form factor! This thing is *almost* there in terms of a miniature solid-state recording device... and in some ways the fact that it's so close makes the flaws stand out that much more. In particular:
- No way to automatically "track mark" recordings - you have to stop and then start again, which takes a few seconds
- No level meters (ugh) or even a way to adjust recording level
- No support for ID3 tags or reordering tracks on the player
- (the big one) the audio out has a high-pitched constant whine which I'm guessing comes from the LCD circuitry. This is really unacceptable, and I'm sort of hoping that it's maybe just this one unit.
However, on the bright side a line-in recording I made sounded great once I uploaded it to my PC and played it there. So I'm looking forward to seeing how it sounds when I use it to record the Karl Denson show tomorrow night. More detailed review later.
