I'm back from DevCon.

The Web Services BOF wasn't quite what I'd hoped for, although it was fun in its own way.  There were about 10 people there, of which essentially none had actually done anything with Web Services beyond a quick sample getStockQuote type thing.  So it ended up being an intimate discussion during which Tom and I talked a lot about the potentials for Web Services, what makes them good and what makes them difficult, and how the various Macromedia products integrate this stuff.  We pointed the folks at some resources, talked a bunch about their various businesses, and then after an hour or so we all headed off to Universal Studios for the DevCon event there.  I think scheduling the BOF right before the event was part of the low attendance, but it does also jibe with the fact that people aren't really mainstream Web Services users yet, although they're interested.  I wonder how many people don't even realize they're using "Web Services" when they call ColdFusion Components from Flash?

Had a brief chat at the bar with a gentleman who implemented his own CF Web Services library before we put out CFMX, and now he'd really like to work with us to get good APIs for extension/header support into CF.  I think that sounds like a great idea, and we'll see what we can do.

All in all a great conference, leaving us with lots of good stuff to think about from our users.  I think the next year will be a very exciting one for Macromedia, not to mention the net at large.
