You can get anything you want at Alice’s Restaurant
I haven’t been able to get that tune out of my head since reading NetworkWorld’s columnist Paul McNamara’s hilarious 5/5/03 ‘ NetBuzz column.
If you have ever heard the entire version of the Alice’s Restaurant Massacre then you will relate to McNamara’s example. (If you haven’t heard it - go get it - in the time you can listen to In a Gada Da Vida or Freebird or Whipping Post a few times you can hear the entire story)
McNamara told how the Virginia law making sending spam a felony punishable by actual prison time reminded him of Arlo Guthrie’s song where he found himself on a bench with a bunch of criminals because he was a litterer.
Arlo tells how all these mean and nasty criminals (mother rapers, father rapers!) all moved away from him on the bench when he admitted he was a litterer - until he added “and creating a nuisance” Then they all moved back and they had a blast talking about crime. It’s hilarious and you really have to hear it.
I hate spam as much as you but prison seems just a tad overkill doesn’t it? Kudos to McNamara for the perfect analogy.
