Cool Geekette
Had a great conversation (and dinner at Mortons!) with Microsoft’s Beth Goza last night. Bloggers may know her for the infamous Register parody of her blog that was called “The worst blog of all time.”
Beth had been in the Pocket PC division at Microsoft and is really a cool geekette. Now she carries around a slate Tablet PC (Fujitsu) and a Microsoft smart phone instead of the Pocket PC.
She and her husband both have Segways and actually replaced one of their cars with them. Her husbands commutes 8 miles/day on his Segway. I’ve only spent 15 minutes on one but that’s an amazing accomplishment.
She got to visit uber-inventor Dean Kamen’s house and get a tour from the man himself. Even if you’re not a fan of the Segway, Kamen’s insulin pump, wheelchair that brings people to eye level and other inventions are revolutionary and of great value to humanity. The Segway/Ginger hype was admittedly overkill but the technology he uses to balance the Segway may make it into future wheelchairs and other devices.
I hope to hook up with her again at Gnomedex this summer in Des Moines - looks like a wicked cool group heading out to the cornfields of Iowa this year.
