See you in 83 Years
Many of us are used to the fast-paced crash and burn business world of the Internet Age. It’s not unusual for companies to start, grow huge and then fizzle away. I know because I’ve bought the stock of many of these shooting stars near their peak. L
So when a company lasts 100 years that is a real achievement. The 100 Year Club of Cleveland was founded by Curtis Lee Smith, President of the Cleveland Chamber of Commerce and William Ganson Rose who wrote “Cleveland: The Making of a City” in 1950. The first meeting was in 1953.
In recent years, the Club has been part of the Muldoon Center at John Carroll University. And JCU was the host site for the induction dinner last week. Mayor Jane Campbell presented plaques to the 2 new members - Euclid Industrial Maintenance and Cleaning Contractors, Inc. and Smythe, Cramer Co.
2002 inductees were E.B. Brown Opticians, The Gebauer Co., Union Gospel Press and the Visiting Nurse Association of Cleveland.
I wonder how many of the big boys today will make 100 years - Microsoft? Intel? Oracle? What about Amazon, eBay or Yahoo? Hey, Magnum Computers Inc is now 17 years old - just 83 years to go. See you at the induction ceremony with Mayor Lebron James IV in 2086.
