JXTA positioning of P2P The recent availability of the WinXP Peer-to-Peer SDK has perked some more interest in P2P. There is even an inquiry about it in the Groove Devzone forum. David Rubinstein's column on 'The JXTA Position' in the SDTimes (Happy 3rd Birthday !) gives more insight into the Java side of P2P. Albeit JTXA has 12,300 members with almost a million downloads, its progress has been excruciatingly slow. There are only two known commercial deployments of JXTA (InView & IAM). You can blame the slow JXTA growth on the economy, the Napster misperceptions but it lies on the fact that Sun (& other hardware/software vendors) are more server-centric and that is basically against the paradigm of P2P. 9:49:25 AM ![]() |
