Senator Moynihan: An Obit. Last week saw the loss of an extraordinary man - Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan. He was an academic don, exemplary politician and a graceful social conscience. He was an ambassador to India and the United Nations and served under four US Presidents brilliantly. His writings had a profound influence in public policy. A few years ago, I acquired two of his books during my graduate studies - 'On the Law of Nations' and 'Miles to Go'. Later, I sent the books to his office for it to be autographed. I will treasure these. A citation in the Almanac of American Politics states him as "the nation's best thinker among politicians since Lincoln and its best politician among thinkers since Jefferson." One cannot add more.
