East-West Power I'm stating the obvious for the native population in the know, but for all the other Triad transplants such as myself, here is a short explanation of how our State works given to me by a political pundit in Kinston (east side of the State): "All the money in North Carolina is made in the west side of the state and then it is spent in the east side of the state." While there is a relative revolving door of legislators in the west side of the state, the east side has all the political power brokers elected to term after term. It has become quite a profitable business for these eastern politicians to sell us all on the idea that our impoverished east side of the state needs our "help" (read: tax dollars - Global Transparks, and empty four lane highways that lead nowhere.) As mentioned a few months back by Ed Cone this is why NC house member Earl Jone's idea of getting Triad state legislators to vote in a block to more strongly address our issues is a political necessity. (I have to admit though, I see plenty of four lane highways in the west side of the state that also either lead nowhere or parallel similar highways a few miles away. North Carolina's unofficial state motto: "Build it and they will come." Many of our cities run under this motto as well.) 10:57:17 AM![]() |
