What does the JBS believe?

From a intrigued prospective member, I was recently asked to state in my own words the position of the John Birch Society as quickly as possible.  Here's my current best shot:

Totalitarianism whether promoted by communists or fascists, or those seeking "world peace" through global governance, is tyranny. The best system possible for protecting human freedom is a constitutionally limited government --- where to remain limited a moral and just citizenry is required.  When men work through subterfuge or secrecy to subvert human freedom and achieve totalitarianism it should properly be called a "conspiracy" rather than the result of "unintended" consequences.  The John Birch Society is working to defend our constitutionally limited republic from all those, both within and without, who conspire against it.

What have they been spiking the coffee with at the N&R?

"The very rich are different from you and me."  three days later... "Focus on corporatist v. individualist. That, I predict, will be the big American cultural battle of this century, as growing numbers of Americans begin to realize 1) that corporations have more rights than they do and that 2) the legal basis for giving corporations such freedom is a fabrication."

--- Lex Alexander, trusted local conservative journalist

"It’s time for the emerging libertarian majority to make itself known... I propose that the motto of this movement be the Thoreauvian chestnut, 'That government is best which governs least.'"

--- Ed Cone, public stadium advocate, and respected journalist
