Horse Pen Creek Watershed Watch These full drums of chemicals (about a dozen) mysteriously showed up on the corner of Battleground and Horse Pen Creek earlier this week and were still sitting scattered around on this vacant lot late Friday. When I asked the women manning at the desk at the Sheriff station in nearby Bur-Mil park, I was told the location was in the city limits now and I should call the Greensboro police if I wanted to pursue things. Since I was late for dinner and we are only at Code Yellow, I dropped the matter. I figure there are 3 possibilities here: 1) This is prep for some road work like painting lines. 2) Someone has saved some money on having to haul away some unwanted liquid that falls under the broad hazardous waste laws. 3) Evil-doers have discovered the easiest way to prep for a chemical/biological attack is to just leave things out in plain sight and count on the apathy of a disinterested public for cover. Though, 2) would ordinarily be a strong possibility I would think the length of time these have sat there indicates 1) must be the most probable explanation. ![]() |
