North Carolina Libertarian Party Convention - RTP Note that was RTP not RIP. The 2004 convention was a great success. Several upgrades to the old state party platform were made including ones on Immigration, Selective Service and Marriage. We were all impressed to have State Supreme Court candidate Judge John Tyson make an unscheduled appearance to ask for our support. My favorite factoid from Judge Tyson was that this was the first election that we will have Supreme Court (and Appeals court) candidates running as non-partisans on a seperate ballot. No pulling the lever for R or D across the board this time. The factoid part was that for all these many years when the Democrats ruled the benches the D and R were considered a good idea. In 1994 there was not a single "conservative" judge in our supreme court. Going into this first non-partisan election though 6 of 7 are conservative. (6 of 12 are conservative in the appeals court.) Wonder how long this non-partisan scheme will last? In the wrap up to the evening, we were impressed to see our dinner speaker Jerry Agar share a few night caps with us for a couple of hours in the bar. A good day. (Next year we have to see if we can get "liberal" type personalities to show. As yet, they seem to be too scared to cross paths with the Libertarians.) 11:17:16 PM![]() |
