6th District Activism

On my way to the Randolph Co. GOP breakfast today, on 220 south of Greensboro I passed some slow moving old geezer in a black GMC SUV that had the GOP circuit of bumper stickers pasted on the back: Coble, Burr, Ballantine and Bush/Cheney.  After making a minor wrong turn in Asheboro, I got to the Golden Coral just in time to figure out that the old geezer was our Congressman Howard Coble who was making a surprise appearance.  (Can't be too many terms left here.)

I had talked to Howard on the phone before, but this was my first time to introduce myself in person.  We chatted briefly while piling a few scrambled eggs on our plates.

I think Howard eventually figured out that I was the instigator for an effort at the end of the meeting to hand out info on the UN certified election monitors from the EU headed our way.  The info also included the letter we were sending to Mr. Coble asking him to take further action. When I thanked Howard for voting against this idea in round one before it was over ridden by the state department, he said, "Did I vote for that?"  I was later told this was his stock answer for all constituents asking about his votes until he could figure out for sure which side of the vote the speaker was truly on.  In any event, it certainly was opportune for him to show up out of the blue on the day we decided to crank the pressure up on him to defend our nation's sovereignty.

You know, I am finding that most Republicans generally are not keen on the idea of a Democratic Congressman from Florida heading a team of Europeans being sent to our country to police our elections.  Especially a Congressman previously impeached as a federal judge on Congressional vote of 413-3.

Thanks to Bob Crumley, who led the meeting and gave us the plug at the end including his own observation that we need to keep the UN out of our country's affairs.

BTW: Bob is not quite as skinny as he looks on the back of the my phone book.

BTW2: My wife is happy that I did get the hedge trimming finished today finally.

W is for watch-out

Got out of Charlotte yesterday just as the president was saying:

"Today I also want you to understand I understand the world of ours is changing, and the fundamental systems of government must change with the changing world."

But hey, I know I'm crazy to imagine that we have any of our freedoms at risk in this process.
