Who's in Charge? The Raleigh News and Observer came through and published our anti-CAFTA op-Ed viewpoint piece by Roxane Premont today. I think they held it a few days to give Cass Ballenger time to write an opposing pro-CAFTA viewpoint which appeared on the opposite page of the print edition but is not available on-line. Roxane did a good job of getting through to the right people to have her voice heard. She cut her teeth on this kind of activism a few years ago working for a non-profit that was promoting school reform legislation. Her mentor at that time was the radical and villified Vernon Robinson. The pressue is on in Washington as the Bush Adminstration puts on the full court press to pass the CAFTA bill they sat on all last summer waiting for the election to blow over. When I was in DC last week, on the Hill types told me the idea is to attempt quiet passage going into the long Memorial Day weekend.
