Old Soldiers

The military doesn't start wars. The politicians start wars.
General William Westmoreland

This caught my eye today on the banner of antiwar.com.  It was only last week in Charleston that I was in an old folks home having dinner a few tables away from the General, who is now in his nineties.

I'm told the main toll age has taken on the general is in his ability to make a decision.  Seems like he only had so many to make and now he has run out of them.  The senior housing complex will survive though.  There are six other retired generals there they can defer to.

Over dinner, I also had an interesting discussion with two people who thought using taxpayer dollars to support the fine arts was perfectly acceptable...as opposed to paying for exhibits of sacred icons dunked in urine.

These were of course people over thirty and forty when the Libertarian Party was founded.  I am not sure if I swayed them on the point that private funding of the arts would eliminate their distaste towards involuntary support of artistic expressions where urine is a primary medium.
