Busted

Some parents suddenly stumble onto something like their son's drug stash on their own.  In our family's case it was our older son ratting on his 14 year-old brother Max that he has started his own blog.

Even more alarming...Max is getting more hits a day than his dad.

Fun Fourth for  Liberty -- and NO on CAFTA.

Our little rag tag band of Libertarian patriots garnered 202 signatures at our Fourth of July booth in Greensboro today - toward the requirement of about 120,000 that we need keep our party on the NC ballot.  (editor's note: North Carolina is considered the 2nd hardest state in the Union to get and keep a 3rd party on the ballot.  Trend setting Oklahoma is first.  For comparison purposes in the "free" elections held earlier this year in Iraq it took 25 signatures to get a political party on the ballot.)

Mary Rakestraw who did a stint at the Summit House fund raiser in the booth next to us lent her name to our effort.  Husband Frank withheld his John Hancock this 4th of July on the grounds that might take votes away from a Republican candidate.  Our non-partisan Mayor Keith Holiday was quite friendly but also respectfully withheld his own John Hancock so as not to risk "becoming a poster boy" for the Libertarian Party.  I suppose I see his point, but no harm done in asking.

Unfortunately, I was busy getting a couple of signatures and on the wrong line of sight to catch Howard Coble walking past our booth.  Our LP County Chair Paul Elledge flagged our Congressman down though and was able to engage him in a short conversation.  Congressman Coble said he was in a hurry, but when Paul asked how he intended to vote on CAFTA, he took a minute to detail how he was still leaning NO but that the YES forces were doing a better job of getting their side out.  Duh?  All the money, all the multinational corporations, all the big media and even the US Department Agriculture - Now who would you think would have an advantage in getting the word out?

I have it on good authority however, that a growing number of the informed electorate are going to make sure that while he is home in our district for our Independence Day holiday break Congressman Coble is going to get an earful about voting NO on CAFTA.  I predict that in the end we will see a NO vote from Mr. Coble.

Do your part and register your support for a NO vote on CAFTA by calling Congressman Coble's Greensboro office first thing tomorrow morning: 333-5005.  Even better yet, get together with four or five of your influential friends and ask for a 10 minute meeting or 5 minute conference call.
