Freedom of Religion in America poised for a comeback

With members of the Southern Baptist Convention placing thousands of their healing hands upon the guardrails and chair arms of Greesnboro's financially demonized Coliseum Complex this week, I thought it would be a good time to pump the bill introduced in Congress over a year ago by North Carolina's own most faithful Representative, Walter Jones, Jr.

Congressman Jones' bill HR 235, "Houses of Worship Free Speech Restoration Act," would amend the tax code of 1986 and essentially reverse the most onerous portions of the 1950's era legislation pushed through Congress by Lyndon Johnson, which effectively silenced pastors from preaching public policy from the pulpits of America...except in certain churches where the reverends and politicians are inseparable and generally not challenged by the IRS.

Though Congressman Jones has yet to obtain a single co-sponsor for his bill that may soon change.  Right now his bill is item #8 on the Christian Coalition's issues list.  Somewhat in repose while working off some debt over the last few years, I have it on good authority that the CC is now ready to crank things up a notch.

With our country (and sadly many glitz crazed churches) swirling down an abyss of financial debt, its a good time to get all our nation's pastors back into their pulpits preaching public policy...just like old times when the country was in need of its independence.
