How I became a Libertarian by Jennifer S. Medlock
In the summer of 2000, my husband's co-worker and a dear friend, Ron Belcher, started slowly introducing us both to Libertarian ideas. He was not insistent, but boy did he make a lot of sense. Eric and I started reading many books on history and Libertarian philosophy. After reading much material, I had the feeling that the world is not what it seems. I had been confronted with ideas of undeniable corruption and abuses of power, and it was as if I had just stepped into "The Matrix".
Sure, I knew the government was not perfect. I always voted (unlike Eric) nonetheless, wanting to take the Democrats' words as a grain of hope somewhere in the dark blue universe. I was a Demopublican because I thought I had no alternative, and I actually believed there was a difference between the two parties. A difference between hate and compassion; a difference between domestic and foreign policy.
But I was going about achieving my ideals in the wrong way. I was still giving credit to wasteful spending and lobbyist groups. I was still supporting the government programs that have never worked, the injustices that the government has never been held accountable for. Not any more. From now on, I fight for freedom. I fight for the liberties we have unknowingly lost. There is no turning back. Yours in Liberty, Jennifer
I have copied many previous letters to the editor that I have written to the Article Index page. There is a lot of information about my positions there. Sometime I hope to organize it and make it a little more user-friendly. Enjoy. I need to go get some rest!
