Contemporary Ceramics A post in the Listserv discussion group, ClayArt, got me thinking of what is a contemporary pot, and a possible answer... If we think of what helps define our present day, makes us all (OK, some of us) contemporaries, it today's computer technologies. I'd go further and say the Internet and the virtual world are helping define the present from the past.. So what ceramics are being done on-line? There are my own, humble, attempts with The Finality of Meaning and Objectification of Art - Expository. Some folks are working on ways to throw virtual pots by modeling how potters make them in real life. The Terra Mia Virtual Pottery Painter allows you to decorate a virtual pot on-line and send it to your self. Then let us not forget the on-line worlds such as Everquest. Where potters, such as The Enchanter on Erollisi Marr, learn their skill...
Tip ...and swap information about the Potter's trade in something that could be straight out of ClayArt..
I don't believe the above on-line examples are the sole answer to "What is a contemporary pot?" I think they should start to be included. |
