Virtual Pots Redux

OK, a bit out of context, but some folks have been playing with a picture of pots at an archeological dig. (The page takes a while to load.)

Brian Gartside dropped me a nice note. He uses computers to help design his pots. This makes total sense, being able to play with color, and composition so freely saves a lot of time. He is also putting up some virtual pots.

These applications allow one to quickly check ideas. Here we have the same teapots done in glass, chrome, and ceramic, by Neil Blevins.

Going the next step may be Deer Creek Pottery. They have digitized their tiles and colors, allowing you to virtually paint up your own, then order them.

Then there is the artistic exploration of just what could be as well as the digital image being the end in itself. Jim Speers is a professional potter who has done some remarkable images.
