Astronomical Surface Decorations on Ceramics, Mesoamerica part VII (onyx bowl part 2) ---see CORRECTIONS 12/18-- The author, D. M. Urquidi, was kind enough to write me back with the Kerr Number for the onyx bowl that is an astronomical device ( Maya Astronomy Classes) You can see the bowl for yourself at the Maya Vase Database. Search the database for Kerr Numer K4692. From Justin Kerr's rollout photo it looks like there would be two collections of glyphs. Each covers a portion of the inside of the bowl from just above the bottom to right below the rim. Each collection 'rises' at about a 10 degree angle from the bottom. I won't even pretend to day I can read Mayan glyphs. I'll need to brush up a bit on refraction. Take a guess on the shape of the bowl, Height 8.5 cm, Diameter 12.8 cm. And see just how such a bowl may have worked.... 11:06:23 PM |
