Astronomical Surface Decorations on Ceramics, Mesoamerica part VII (Onyx Bowl part 3) CORRECTION: D. M. Urquidi has been very kind and corrected me on the Onyx Bowl, Kerr Number K4692, mentioned in Maya Astronomy Classes and cited by me here and here. The glyphs on the side of the bowl do not represent stars' postions, as one would find on a star map. The bowl may have been used for divination, including viewing the stars when the bowl was full of water, but the orientation of the stars to the glyphs was not important. Hope I got it right this time :-) 10:56:36 PM |
