Phone Weirdness
(Twilight Zone music, please.)
Phone rang and when I answered, all I heard was a series of beeps: a fax machine trying to talk to another fax machine. Except I don't have a fax machine—this is just my regular home phone. Wouldn't have thought too much about this except it happened several times in a row. Exceedingly annoying, needless to say.
Finally got fed up enough to do the *69 thing to see who was wasting my time. (Of course now I'll have to pay for that...) Plugged the number I got for the fax machine into Google and came up with an old directory page which paired the fax number to a regular phone number. Called that number and got the answering machine at a medical office in Burien. Alas, they'd just left for the day—presumably after finally realizing that they'd been trying to fax a wrong number!—so I left a message with the answering service and may or may not hear back from them on Monday.
The weird part of all this was that ancient directory page listed the phone numbers in question as being for the office of Dr. David Clemetson, who was killed in the crash of Flight 261 back on 31 January 2000.
