The Greedheads Are At It Again The SCO Group, the owner of the UNIX operating system, recently filed legal action against IBM in the State Court of Utah, alleging misappropriation of trade secrets, tortious interference, unfair competition and breach of contract. SCO alleges that IBM made concentrated efforts to improperly destroy the economic value of UNIX, particularly UNIX on Intel, to benefit IBM's new Linux services business. SCO claims that as a result of IBM's unfair competition it was damaged in an amount not less than $1 billion, together with additional damages through and after the time of trial. Check out Doc Searls' article on this suit. The question I have is will this end here? Or will SCO next start going after the various distros of Linux and BSD? Can Apple be next? After all, Apple touts its OS X as having UNIX as its foundation. 6:17:31 PM ![]() |
