Linux and Me, Redux

A while back I posted about my disenchantment with Linux as an OS. Well, I tried palming my old 200MHz Pentium Pro off on my parents but they wanted no part of the computer age. So, my old desktop unit was sitting there in the corner of my office looking so forlorn, that I decided to give Linux another try. This time, instead of Mandrake, I went out and got RedHat Linux 8.0. The installation couldn't have gone any smoother. It seemed to be a much easier install than Mandrake was. When I booted up the first time, the GUI looked quite a bit better than the older Mandrake version, though nowhere near as polished as either Windows XP or Mac OS X.

Well, then I started tearing my hair out all over again. I couldn't get Linux to recognize my sound card no matter what I did. With Mandrake, I had to reconfigure it everytime I booted up. Also, according to the OS, I don't have a modem. Last I checked I did (I even plugged the phone line into it before I started the installation). I spent the better part of the day getting more and more frustrated while looking longingly at my PowerBook G4.

Just call me /user/bin/idiot.

More Big Mouths

Now some people also think that this guy

should keep his big fat mouth shut. In this case I happen to agree.

Let your arm do the talking Boomer.
