SICK AND IN BED Well, the weekend is almost upon us. How can I tell? Well the weather here in Hondoland is pretty crappy and I'm home sick with a fever, sore throat and pressure squeezing my head like somebody's crackin' open a walnut. Anyway, I saw that Oprah intends to pose for some nude photos for Stedman for her 50th birthday. The only thing that comes to my mind was Col. Kurtz's line in Apocalypse Now to Capt. SO WHAT'S THE DEAL MR. ARNETT? So what happened to Peter Arnett’s apology on the Today Show? All that so-called contrition on his part was nothing but a lot of B.S. until he could get himself another gig. According to Arnett’s recent “report” at The Daily Mirror’s website: “We have to watch the reality now and some Iraqis are fighting and the government does seem very determined. For me to see that and to be criticised for saying the obvious is unfair. But it has made me a target for my critics in the States who accuse me of giving aid and comfort to the enemy. I don't want to give aid and comfort to the enemy - I just want to be able to tell the truth. I came to Baghdad with my crew because the Iraqi side needs to be heard too. It is clear the original timetable that America would be in Baghdad by the end of March has fallen by the wayside.” Well, if he’s there in Baghdad seeing to it that the “Iraqi side” is being heard, how is he so expert about matters going on in the field sometimes hundreds of miles away from him? Furthermore, I never knew that the Pentagon had clued Arnett in on the “original timetable.” Obviously, his bitterness and resentment against the United States is showing. Isn’t this the same guy that lost his job at CNN when he fabricated a story that we “gased our own troops” in Vietnam? He crossed the line in his reporting. A reporter should report the story, not become part of it. Reporting what he sees and hears in Baghdad is one thing. Giving the enemy his opinion as to our battlefield tactics and success, or lack there of, is something quite different. And that’s why he’s working for that tabloid rag now.
