GOOD FRIDAY I was raised as a Catholic so I have grown accustomed to seeing the crucifix in churches ever since I was a kid. I've been attending a non-denominational gospel church for a while now, and while, like most Protestant churches, they don't have a crucifix they do have a large plain cross over the pulpit. I was thinking how often Christians, when entering the church, see either the crucifix or the cross and, while intellectually and theologically understanding what it was about, have become so used to seeing it that they really can't comprehend the cruel form of death that Jesus suffered. Even the Gospel writers gloss over it, I guess because they assumed that the people of that time would have been quite familiar with what the Romans raised to a fine art. A few years ago I came across an article on the internet by a physician in which he analyzed in great detail the brutal torture and death that Christ endured. I lost the link a long time ago and it's probably a broken link by now anyway. I did save the text of the article and you can access it here. I want to warn you, the article is quite graphic and the description is gruesome. I won't be posting for the next few days, so I want to wish all of you a happy and joyous Easter and Passover. 9:05:12 AM ![]() |
