FRIDAY NIGHT THESPIAN

It was such a rough week that all I wanted to do was go to sleep when I got home from work yesterday. Instead Mrs. Aurelius and I went out to see my brother-in-law in a first reading of a new play entitled Rocket Boys. For a first reading the script is really tight. I've seen first readings for stuff going to Broadway that's nowhere near as polished. The thing is, the creator sees it as a musical and not as a play. My wife (who's got her own musical in the works for Broadway) and I think that adding music would really water down the script. But, who knows? These things go through so many permutations before they actually reach the stage that the end product is often completely unrecognizable from the inital concept.

Afterwards we went out with some of the cast for a late night bite and some drinks. I had two scotch on the rocks that went straight to my head. Lucky for me my wife was driving. I also had an interesting talk (I call all of my monologues to a captive audience a "talk") with one of the actors on how the music industry is completely dominated by bean-counters and how that's what's killing them, not college students swapping MP3s. Naturally, he saw my inescapeable logic and agreed.

I did get my rest. I didn't get up until noon and immediately headed over to Borders for some coffee and to read Chris Pirillo's column in CPU Magazine for free.
