Isolation of the U.S. MSNBC has a very informative article this morning. I suggest that you read it.
My politics are perhaps unusual. While I am against a quick/unilateral war, I was a defense contractor for 20 years and I take pride in our military, and I actively promote fair pay, lots of training, educational benefits, best possible equipment, etc. for our miltary personel.
That said, I am horrified as a U.S. citizen how the Bush administration (yes, I did vote for him) has screwed up our relationships with long standing allies. An NO! it is not just France and Germany - several people have tried to point at just these two countries and their economic interests in Iraq - a little truth, but mostly bullshit - ignoring the facts of a world turning against the U.S. because of the rudeness and arragance of our leadership. It is a shame that being pro-U.S. is now a political liability for countries that have traditionally been our friends.
As the MSNBC article so accurately points out: the situation in Iraq is not worthy of isolating the U.S. and making many other countries fear us. NOTE: if you read the article, don't skip the last half: a great review of our very effective diplomacy in the past (especially after the second world war).
