Ancient Indian Ruins As a 4th of July outing, my wife and I drove about 60 miles north east to the Walnut Canyon National Monument which was established in 1915 to keep locals from obsconding with ancient Indian artifacts.
The Sinagua (Spanish for "without water") Indians established themselves in Walnut Canyon in approximately 1100 and left about 1250 (assumption: because of draught conditions).
From a short 2 1/2 mile hike, you can see lots of ruins - some of them partially restored.
Because of an accute fire danger, there will be no fireworks in Sedona Arizona this year. So, we are planning on driving with some friends to Verde Valley to catch the fireworks show there.
Everyone have a fun and safe 4th of July!
