News coverage of Israel's sinking of the US Navy ship Liberty I was a defense contractor for about 20 years, and three of my bosses were retired Navy commanders. One of them mentioned on several occasions Israel's attack on the USS Liberty in 1967, killing 38 US sailors (to say that he was pissed off by this is a major understatement). My boss said that it was because we were collecting intelligence information that Israel did not want us to know.
Anyway, my old boss was a great guy, but I did not give much credence to his story.
Today, while reading the most excellent Microsoft NBC news site, I saw a blurb on how US intelligence information will likely be released on this subject.
Out of curiousity, I did a Google search on "Israel USS Liberty" and was surprised by the number of links that showed up. I hope that the US government, under the freedom of information act, does release any information that they have.
I would take the information in the following links with some scepticism, but they are interesting (listed in "Google order"):
I think that it is very important not to jump to conclusions! It has been my experience that eventually, the truth comes out (usually).
