samdu writes "The CommodoreOne is now available for purchase. The C=1 is a reimplementation of the Commodore=64 in an ATX form factor, 65c816 processor running at approximately 20 MHz, VGA out, an updated SID (with backward compatibility), 32 MB of RAM, standard IDE, PS/2 ports, and a 64 compatible cartridge slot. Let the hobbying begin." We've run previous stories on related efforts. ... [Slashdot]

I don't know why I like stuff like this so much. I don't know whether I ever even touched a C=64 or not. (My first real exposure to personal computers was via the IBM PC, the TRS-80, and the Apple II.) Nevertheless, I find something pure and, I suppose, a bit quixotic in these cults of old tech. Also, as a Mac user who is always feeling left behind in the megahertz wars, I love seeing a quote like this (my emphasis) from the WiNGS site:

After you break the 20mhz barrier, most tools and applications and general use programs are not large enough or complex enough to USE all the clock cycles the computer has available.
