Quote

If I could have convinced more slaves that they were slaves, I would have freed thousands more.

Imagine what she would say today if she were around.

Vive New Orleans!

If you visit this city if only for a brief time you will immediately notice its southern charm, its great musical venues, the incredible culture, and excellent dining.  There are other things I am sure you will notice but I will leave those for you to find.

If you live in this city long enough you will grow to notice the city's sizeable under-belly.  The under-belly of the city is the area that is less than picturesque.  The under-belly consists of the odor that permiates the French Quarter on the Monday morning after a long weekend; it's the dismantled housing projects that are scattered throughout the city; it's the dilapidated houses that people are forced to call home; it's the school system that needs help.  It's the huge pothole that my car fell in on the way to the office...

This week - Amistad is in town.  B.B. King was in town.  There is a great exhibit at Bassetti Gallery of Fine Photography on Louisiana Prisoners.  The artist explained that 78% of the prisoners held a 3d grade reading level.  Oh yeah - and the images I saw - well 90% of them were of African American prisoners.  Don't get me started on our school system.  I will save that for another day.  But go see the exhibit if you have the time or the interest.

Oh - I forgot.  Bush was in town...   Since I have nothing good to say about that subject I will just move on.  Like I said, New Orleans has the good, the bad, and even the occassional ugly.

WHY?

In case any of you are wondering why I started this website - - I just decided I wanted a place to display my photos, and then I realized that's kind of silly because I may be the only person that likes (or understands) my art, so I decided I should say something.

I recognize that I will naturally run into the problem that some people will not like what I have to say -- or maybe not even understand what it is I am saying.  That's O.K. if at least for a moment I get you to think about something that might not otherwise cross your mind.  My position is that by conveying through this forum I am not subjecting the reader to my ramblings ad nauseam - - ie. use your back arrow if you don't have the time or an open mind.

Most of us, or at least I believe most of us, live in this world of polite speak.  Unfortunately, this leads to very little intellectual interaction or stimulus.  Maybe I'm a bit naive, but I find it hard to believe that people don't have opinions.  Maybe this forum will get some people to open up and speak their mind a bit and stop being so damn polite - - maybe this forum will get some people to like my art - - and maybe, just maybe, some people will start asking WHY - - and actually start doing something about it.

Enough of my pulpit preaching - Just enjoy the site!  If you don't, you can always click on your back arrow.
