Enough already!
In almost every paper you pick up today, and every news channel you turn to, you will see something about Senator Lott. I say ENOUGH ALREADY. Unless you lived in a box all your life, you did not need to hear Lott's comments to realize that people who think like Lott really do exist.
At this point, we are all versed in Lott's numerous civil rights transgressions - - I do not need to hear any more apologies. He has made similar comments in the past and he did not apologize then so why bother us with his half-hearted apologies now. I for one also do not need to be reminded of his civil rights track record. I also do not need to be reminded of Lott's past political associations. Therefore, the last thing I need to hear is an apology from this man. Enough already!
Right now I hope that he does retain his position for a couple of reasons. First, it’s nice to see the American public actually take an interest in politics. Second, I say let him stay so that we can all watch him stick his other foot in his mouth -- I am sure he will as history has a way of repeating itself. Seeing him everyday will stand as a reminder to all as to just how far we have come and just how far we still need to go.
Right now I think his apologies are falling on deaf ears. If he is truly a "changed man" then maybe he should demonstrate this with actions rather than empty words.
