The NBA is Catching Up - (kinda)

Up until this week, there has been not a single african-american that has held a controlling interest in one of the four major pro sports leagues (NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB).  An unbelievable fact when you look at the compositional makeup of most NBA and NFL teams.  But then again, it's not that unbelievable when you consider that the NFL has only as recent as the last 10 years had African-American head coaches (the same holds true for the NBA).  It's not that unbelievable when you consider that black quarterbacks were once converted to wide receivers when they entered college because of their quickness and agility and were not given the opportunity to "lead the team."  Now we have Vick, Brooks, Culpepper, and the list goes on.  So there is some progress, albiet slow - - it's progress.

So, I say it is about time that someone like Robert Johnson, founder of BET, is given an opportunity to own a piece of the NBA.  After all, the last time I checked, the reason people went to see basketball games was to see guys named  Michael Jordan, Allen Iverson, Kobe Bryant, and Shaq play ball.
