SJ Mercury: IBM makes nanotech breakthrough. IBM researchers have created the world's smallest solid-state flashlight -- a tube 50,000 times thinner than a human hair. It emits a glow that is invisible to our eyes, but ideal for devices that use light to send data in fiber-optic cables and the like. [Tomalak's Realm]

IBM continues to make astonishing nanotech breakthroughs. Look for your first auto-immune robot to come from IBM.

Microsoft refuses to play with W3C. Microsoft have withdrawn from the W3C's Web services choreography working group. The article on ADTmag says that they have withdrawn due to a disagreement over the direction of the W3C debate. According to the article, the Microsoft statement on the issue contended that W3C:"is not the only vehicle in which to impact and evaluate a set of technologies. [CapeBlog]

Geeze. Is the W3C really that hard to work with? I really don't know. And then there's Microsoft - if we can't do it our way, we'll just go do it ourselves.

I guess web services are supposed to make SOFTWARE interoperate better, not companies.

Jon, a friend of mine, has turned me onto network theory and emergent behavior. I find myself thinking about it often. It looks like I've caught the bug. Expect to start seeing strange posts about biological networks as I plow through some reading.

Followed Jeff's lead and changed up my blog title a bit. I still have no clear blogging direction. I think my blog is evolving into a mix of postings about programming, software architecture, operating systems, a bit of computer hardware, and the smallest pinch of personal items. I'm just not sure how to summarize that in a one line description.

I'm not going to force it. I'll just give it more time.

I have worn out the "Evanesence" CD since purchasing it last weekend. Love it. It's way produced, and I don't seem to mind. What I can't figure out is why the record company spent so much money on production of a first albumn for a band. Is it possible that someone pulled their head out of the sand and recognized the talent and invested in it?

I like to think of them as hard rock, but even my wife likes it so I'll have to back off that categorization for now.
