A picture named Christmas.jpg
Why bother with a fake Christmas moon when you have the real thing right above your nose? The picture was taken at 19:11 this evening with a 210 mm lens on a hand-held Nikon D70. If I had used a tripod the picture would have been sharper.
The moon looks like a ripe mellon ready to be taken out of the sky.
Update: on December 27 we not only have a full moon, but the moon will be in its apogee (the furthest from the earth). More info.
And isn't it spooky that just now we have that awful earthquake in SE Asia?
Read Larry Niven's Inconstant Moon.

"Christmas has us by the throat again."
P.G. Wodehouse
"If Mr. Wodehouse, the writer who died in 1975, only knew. More than ever, Americans have made Christmas something to fight about. The tension is between the religious and secular observance, the creche and the snowman. It's one more version of what has been labeled the 'moral issues' that divided the nation on Election Day and divide it still. Is a Christmas truce possible in this battle? No thanks - we'll fight this culture war right through New Year's Day."

Merry Christmas, Mary.
