EUObserver: "Some 160 EU-badge wearing police experts could be deployed in Afghanistan by mid-2007, after member states' officials in the Political and Security Committee gave the mission the green light on Friday (26 January).
The project - still in its early planning phase - is designed to support a NATO-led military and nation-building campaign in the South Asian country and will be funded from the EU's Euro 170 million Common Foreign and Security Policy budget for 2007."

Just try to get a policeman when you need one in Europe. They'll turn you away in most cases. Now they want to spend millions on policing Afghanistan. Tell me it's not true.

WashingtonPost: "Declaring 'I'm the decision maker', President Bush yesterday challenged congressional efforts to formally condemn his Iraq plan, while Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates warned that a proposed Senate resolution criticizing the deployment of additional troops would embolden the enemy."

The 'decision maker' being just another word for 'dictator'. Read his lips.

Firedoglake: "Like I said before, you can tell that American law-enforcement has had nothing to do with the investigation into the poisoning death of Alexander Litvinenko because they seem to actually be solving the crime. From ABC News's The Blotter:
'British officials say police have cracked the murder-by-poison case of former spy Alexander Litvinenko, including the discovery of a 'hot' teapot at London's Millennium Hotel with an off-the-charts reading for Polonium-210, the radioactive material used in the killing.'
A senior official tells ABC News the 'hot' teapot remained in use at the hotel for several weeks after Litvinenko's death before being tested in the second week of December. The official said investigators were embarrassed at the oversight."

This is so ridiculous. Suddenly a teapot pops up that hadn't yet been discovered by the superduper, hoity-toity, namby-pamby terror fighters. Just like in the Lockerbie case suddenly a tiny scrap of purported 'evidence' was found on the site one year after the crash.
Why don't they simply admit that Litvinenko was a nuclear trafficker? Maybe because some secret services were actively involved.
