No Jewish community in Western Europe suffered more during the Holocaust than the Jews of Holland.
Why is that? Because collaboration with the nazis was general, even the Jewish Council actively collaborated and made lists of Jews for transportation.
After the war, those who resisted, helped and hid Jewish people, and many of whom were communists, did not rise to political prominence. The subsequent Dutch governments interfered and successfully destroyed all forms of real progressive movements, including the communist parties.
The Dutch governors were always good in keeping up appearances, raising the flag of progress and freedom, but actually keeping everything in check. They call it 'diplomacy'. In fact, it's just another word for lying and cheating. Our prime minister continues the tradition.
