Jim's Pond - Exploring the Universe of Ideas
"Beware when the great God lets loose a thinker on this planet. Then all things are at risk. It is as when a conflagration has broken out in a great city, and no man knows what is safe, or where it will end." --Ralph Waldo Emerson

Buzz

I ate at my favorite little restaurant last night. I'm not giving the name because I don't want it to become your favorite little restaurant. For the last couple of years you could go after 8:00 on a Friday or Saturday night and immediately get a table. Not last night. The place was packed.

There was definitely an energy to the place, a buzz. I overheard bits of many conversations. All seemed to be fixated on the war in Iraq.

I'm definitely not a war monger. In fact, I'm a peace loving, harmony guy. But I do believe that this war is going to be good for the economy. If what I saw last night is repeated over and over again across the land then at least the food services industry is going to do a lot better.

It seems that we have been down for so long. There is a lot of self-loathing going on out there. And you have to hate it when some Americans say that the horrors of September 11th were deserved and caused by Americans. That's crap. Perhaps the feeling of doing something, instead of sitting around waiting for the next attack, has given us a much needed shot of energy.

With divine help hopefully we will see an end to this conflict in the next few days. Let's hope that the loss of life is minimal and that all of us, including the people of Iraq, can get on with the pursuit of life, liberty and happiness very soon.

That's all for now.......
