Jim's Pond - Exploring the Universe of Ideas
"Beware when the great God lets loose a thinker on this planet. Then all things are at risk. It is as when a conflagration has broken out in a great city, and no man knows what is safe, or where it will end." --Ralph Waldo Emerson

I'm taking a mini vacation from blogging. I'll get back to the NOC issues next week.....

Until then......

Mayberry DSL

I found this article very interesting. Especially in light of Pete's recent post.

The story is about Carl Oppedahl and his move from New York to Ruby Ranch, Colorado. Ruby Ranch was served by AT&T and Qwest. Neither provider wanted to front the cost of providing broadband access to this small Colorado town, so Oppendahl did it himself.

The only downside to this story is that it happened in a wealthy community, perhaps sending the message that this idea is only for the rich. In fact Oppendahl kept the costs to a minimum. This story should give all of us hope for a bright broadband future. With or without the carriers.
