Stop
Since when is it optional to stop at one of these red and white octagonal signs? You know. The ones that have the work STOP displayed prominently. Last week, as I left my neighborhood for a bike ride, I had a great vantage point. I was able to see three intersections and watched as a nice young lady rolled past three separate stop signs. No attempt to stop whatsoever.
On a return ride a couple of days later I watched as another auto repeat much the same maneuver in reverse. And then yesterday another young, blonde female was approaching an intersection in the right lane next to me. The light turned yellow well in advance of our approach. I slowed. So did my fellow driver. I stopped. She kept going. Slowly. Clearly the light was red. It was red for at least two vehicle lengths, maybe more.
So is that the state of driving in Utah? Have stop signs now become suggestions? Is slowly approaching and rolling through red lights the clear choice of a new generation? What's next? Fashionable cell phone distraction becomes even more popular and even accepted?.........
