Ptosis surgery complete! Ice packs on/off every 20 waking minutes. Can't read with an icepack on, unfortunately. I feel like Hugh Grant in "About a Boy"--my existence, for the duration, is divided up into neat, fractional-hour units.

Wow, our new hometown, Woodbury, MN, is ranked by CNN Money as the best town in the central region! We really like it here, so that is not a surprise!

This digital audio receiver (DAR) component--bridging PCs and home stereos--is something I've been anticipating for a while. Now I just have to wait for it to get a bit cheaper and better. While on the subject--I wonder why wireless speakers haven't gotten more popular, and I wonder if DARs will increase their popularity? Wouldn't it be great to have speakers in every room, if you didn't have to contend with messy wiring? The final piece of the puzzle will be controlling it all through a nice, rich GUI, both on a PC or a PDA-based remote. No more hard-coded, special-purpose remotes, or dealing with kludgy universal remotes. Of course, said PDA/remote will operate on 802.11--no infrared line-of-sight requirements will be tolerated.
