Interesting fact from Cringely: [An] advantage of a circuit-switched network is its massive total bandwidth. While 64 kbps per circuit seems pitiful in a world of DSL and cable modems, if viewed from the perspective of the total network, it really isn't, because all of those 64 kbps channels can operate at the same time. Broadband providers typically provision about 11 kbps per broadband subscriber.

Got my new Compaq Evo nc6000 laptop at work. Mostly too soon to form strong impressions (other than the 19" LCD monitor I also got is very nice). Except the pointing stick seems more recessed than in other laptops I've used, and I don't care for that.

Had my 10-week Lasik follow-up. Everything fine. Left eye 20/20+, right improved from 20/30 to 20/25. They are hopeful it will continue to improve (it was so much worse). I would be fine with it the way it is, though the improvement would be nice for night.
