One easy way to make an institutional building nicer (I'm thinking of this as I sit in C# training right now) would be to get rid of horrible, icky fluorescent lighting. I know it is cheap and low maintenance, but--yuck.

There are some good shortcuts from the Windows (flag) key (flag-E, flag-D). A minor refinement would be for the keypress of that key to bring up the list of shortcuts, sort of like "IntelliSense" (what an awful name!) does in MicroSoft's code editors.

It astounds me how willing people are to wait in long lines at drive-throughs. I often encounter drive-through lines so long that they interfere with parking for the establishment. I just don't get it--is saving the trouble of getting out of your car worth waiting 4X as long for your food?

Wikipedia is almost as indispensable as Google. In fact, for certain types of queries--general background research; for instance, an overview of PZEV emissions standards--you can skip Google and go direct to the wikipedia.

(Wishful) Prediction: Lance Armstrong on the cover of next week's newsmagazines (or maybe the week after, depending on their deadline). Much better than this week's idiotic Newsweek cover, Steve Jobs + iPod.

Doing a little curiousity research about hybrid autos, I learned something I should have realized on my own: the principal advantage of hybrids is the ability to have a smaller engine--not the fact that their regenerative brakes capture some of the braking energy in the batteries for re-use.
