trackback []

Saw a new twist on traffic lights, in, of all places, the Upper Peninsula of MI. At big 3 lane intersections, you typically have a left lane for "turn on signal only", a center straight lane, and a right straight/right lane. So if you need to go left, you can wait quite a while for the turn signal to come around. Well, at these intersections, after the turn has completed, the light goes to blinking red. Meaning (if I'm interpreting right), that you are free to turn left if there is no oncoming traffic just as if you were at a two way stop (where "traffic in other direction does not stop"). Seems like a very nice innovation to me. (They would never have something like this along the eastern seaboard.)
